With a background in teaching textiles and fashion, studying Millinery at Leeds College of Art has inspired Liz to explore new and exciting areas of design. After a grounding in using traditional millinery skills and materials she has relished the opportunity to experiment with new methods and techniques. Digital printing, acrylic mirror and malleable metals are some of the areas Liz has enjoyed investigating and which have been used as decoration, or in the structure, of her hats.
A wide range of sources inspire her designs from the machinery in the Science Museum, planetary systems and to the architecture within Sheffield, which are often sculptural in construction. Liz's work has been exhibited in the Hat Museum in Stockport, selected for exhibition for all the biannual competitions since 2007 at Musee du Chapeau, Chazelles-sur-Lyon and a prize winner in the 2006 Feltmakers competition in London.
Liz makes hats, purely for her own enjoyment, choosing not to take commissions, although some designs are available for hire.
